The NASA Monster That Moves 12-Million-Pound Spaceships

NASA’s shuttle fleet flew its last mission in 2011, but one NASA vehicle will soon be coming out of retirement: the Crawler-Transporter, a vehicle nearly the size of a football field that carried spacecraft to the Kennedy Space Center launch pad for 45 years. The Crawler has been idle since the final shuttle flight, but NASA is now upgrading the venerable machine to move a new generation of spacecraft built by commercial companies.
